You must inform your child of the pool rules, tell them that they have to walk at all time in the swimming pool and changing areas and to listen to the teacher/staff and not to get in or out of the pool until the teacher gives permission. Please remember that if your child needs to go to the toilet during the lesson ensure you supervise them.
Many parents share a frustration – their child won’t practice swimming outside of class.
Know what specific skills to work on. Ask your teacher for homework from the awards skills.
Set aside time to practice these skills were possible every week. Maybe at one of your the local pools.
Notice what he/she does well and reward them.
Allow for play time in the pool after these skills are practised. Get the work done first, saving the play as a reward for afterwards. If your child is unwilling to work, get out of the pool. Remember be happy with them, and let them have play time in the bath at home remember to keep calm.
Use something concrete like a sticker chart or tokens to save and buy rewards.
Praise your child after each practice session with encouraging words and when they pass an award.
